Its was certainly a beautiful day to start the spring school holidays, overcast but a warm balmy 27c. The children screamed with delight when we decided to head to Redleaf pool and Seven Shillings beach. It was so gorgeous there yesterday afternoon lying under a tree watching the kids jump off the pontoons into the harbour and we virtually had the beach to ourselves. Yesterday was a taste of the summer ahead and I can't wait!
There are two things that Australians do on Australia Day have a BBQ or head to the beach. The weather was a warm and sultry 31c so off to Bondi we went to meet friends for a swim.
Its amazing how many ways the Australian Flag can be displayed....bikinis, board shorts, towels, hats, bandannas, face paint the combinations on the beach today were endless. Personally I don't get patriotism displayed in this fashion but it seems that in the last couple of years there has been an explosion of aussie flag paraphernalia sold in surf shops and cheap discount stores. But no doubt the explosion of southern cross tattoos on both men and women is possibly the worst trend, surely there are other ways to show national pride without having to have it permanently inked on your body.
Bondi was closed today because of the 91/2 ft swell so off to Clovelly Ocean Bath we went with a car load of kids thinking that they could swim and snorkel around in the relative protected surrounds of the enclosed baths. How wrong were we it was like a huge washing machine and most unpleasant, we all managed to have a swim in the Geoff James pool but otherwise we were all hot and bothered on the beach wanting to swim but not been able to.
